You can use those as a Midi controller, map them to your DAW or Plugins, and they’ll hold their value relatively well forever. It’s much better to buy a basic controller or a synth/stage keyboard that make their own sound and have USB Midi. Plus in a few years when the next model is released they become worthless. but we all buy these expensive controllers based on the long list of features and expectations that they’ll improve our workflow but most of the time our workflow remains the same, there are issues with DAW control implementation, firmware issues, and the only thing we end up using them for is just Keys to play, and Pads to hit in our already established workflow. I own many synths and other instruments so I’m not against spending money on gear lol. Unrelated but I’ll have a post up soon about why I’m selling my 61 SL MK3 & Maschine MK3 / why midi controllers can be a waste of money. I haven’t had the chance to try another unit but I’ve seen them in many videos and the playing does look fairly effortless. I think there’s probably just a few bad apples floating around out there because I’ve heard varying opinions. If this is a common thing with these, then why aren’t there horrible reviews written everywhere? (Again, that’s why I’m considering it might be a one-off bad unit)ĭoes anyone here have one? And does anyone here also own a real piano or true hammer action instrument to compare it with? Have you played other hammer action keyboards like the Nord Piano or anything else? What are your thoughts on the S88? Because for me, if that’s a regular QC passed production run, it just feels like a bad joke…ĭang sorry to hear! This is an old thread so I can tell you I’ve been back to that store +6 months later to find the S88 still sitting on the floor unsold and feeling just as bad as I remembered it. that’s $1400 pre tax for a midi keyboard with 2 screens that just controls NI software. Now I’m going to give everyone including NI the benefit of the doubt and just think that maybe this was a one-off bad production unit, but damn man. It actually felt like there was just styrofoam stuck under the keys or something to make it feel “weighted” but it was horribly heavy to push any key down, I felt resistance everywhere and it did not feel anything like any Hammer Action that I know of. My old M-Audio Keybed felt better than this thing. I put my hands down on the thing and it’s honestly got to be the worst keybed I’ve ever felt. So, with that in mind, I was ready to be blown away. Sitting a few keyboards over was the KK S88 MK2, I’ve also never played one of those so I went up to it and saw the whopping $1400+ (CAD) price tag on it but then I remembered hearing so many good things about it online when I was looking for a high end midi keyboard. It was great, a really interesting piece of gear and I see why so many people love it. Today I was in the Music Store and they had a Nord Piano 5 sitting there, and personally I’ve never sat down and played one, so I did. But they are known for having less than desirable action, I did the best I could with that thing and it plays very smoothly now, but it still feels like a Rhodes. I recently got a 1973 Rhodes MK1, a beautiful instrument that I restored inside and out, it’s my baby. I ended up chosing the Novation 61SL MK3 in the end but anyways. Okay so let me give this some context, I’m not here to shit on NI, I actually like their products a lot, I use a Maschine now in my daily workflow and the S61 was a big contender for my main controller.

The notification was shown to all users, even if Flash was enabled Apple battled with the negative backlash until 2010 when the late Steve Jobs said Apple had to drop Adobe Flash because of incompatible technology. Initially, this raised a lot of dust in the tech space for three years. In 2007, iPhone users had issues accessing websites and playing online slots with Adobe Flash Player in the earliest days of mobile technology. However, it was surprising that Apple did not allow it on their iPhones and iPad at the time. Adobe kept all of Flash’s development environment intact and retained the plug-in’s name, Flash Player.įlash became generally accepted by developers built into web browsers to watch movies, play online games, enter casinos, and even operating systems. Seeing its huge success, a giant developer, Adobe, bought Macromedia in 2005. As a result, the plug-in gained increased popularity amongst computer users all over the world. With time, Macromedia continued to expand the product’s capabilities such that Flash could power entire websites. After the acquisition, Macromedia Shockwave renamed their product called Flash. Macromedia was larger than FutureSplash, and so they acquired FutureSplash in a few years. At the time, it’s the only competition was Macromedia Shockwave, which used a raster animation system. It offered a vector-based animation and drawing system perfect for the internet in its early days due to its lightweight. The life and times of the internet legend, Adobe Flash, started as far back as 1995 with FutureSplash name. That means, by January 2021, they intend to stop updates, bug fixes, and other support for the software. After Adobe announced in July 2017, they would no longer support Adobe Player beyond December 2020. January 2021 signals the end of the 26-year Flash Player reign. Some of these issues made Flash less common between 20 before the announcement came. However, those jolly years did not come without issues. Particular emphasis goes to the significant roles it played in the gambling and casino industry. There were even entire websites that worked with Adobe Flash. It was almost impossible for you to use the internet without seeing some Flash elements during these years. Flash in those years shaped how we watch videos, ads, play games, and run other applications on the internet. Flash Player’s impacts on the internet remain massive. Adobe stated it stops supporting and developing Flash Player since January 2020, here is Adobe’s official appeal by this link. For those driving, there is plenty of parking nearby. Within Pisa’s historic centre, the tower is hard to miss on foot and is easily reached via public transport. It is located in the Italian town of Pisa, one of the most visited European cities. Of course, any visit to Pisa would not be complete without a photograph of yourself appearing to prop up the leaning tower. The Leaning Tower of Pisa is one of the most remarkable architectural structures from medieval Europe. Be aware, if you want to get up close to the tower you will need to book tickets in advance as this is undoubtedly the city’s most popular tourist destination. Today, visitors can admire the ornate white marble structure that stands 60 metres tall and climb to the top of the Leaning Tower of Pisa up a staggering 300 steps. However, following an extensive and highly complex project, the Leaning Tower of Pisa is now stable. Until 1990 the tower was leaning at a 10 degree angle. Since that time, the tower’s lean has continued to increase, leading to fears that it would indeed fulfil its promise to topple. Giovanni di Simone continued work on the tower in 1260 and, while there was a further pause in construction along the way, the Tower of Pisa was finally completed in 1360. In 1185, a long period commenced in which construction of the Tower of Pisa ceased, the halt in progress usually being attributed to the fact that the Pisans were preoccupied with a succession of wars such as with Florence. The reason for the lean is that the ground on which it was built is sandy and unstable and the foundations used for the tower were insufficient to cope with this. The street address for the Leaning Tower of Pisa is Piazza del Duomo, 56126 Pisa PI, Italy. Located in the Field of Miracles or ‘Campo del Miracoli’, the tower began to lean very early on in its construction, apparently around the time of the construction of its third floor. The Leaning Tower of Pisa is in Pisa, Italy, Europe. Pisa is a seaport in the Tuscany, a region situated in the western part of Italy. The Leaning Tower is part of Pisas UNESCO-listed Field of Miracles complex, an important assemblage of Romanesque, Medieval, and Early Renaissance art and. Originally construction of the Leaning Tower of Pisa was begun in 1174, with the intention of it being a freestanding bell tower for Pisa’s cathedral. Leaning Tower of Pisa is located in the city of Pisa, Italy. One of the universal symbols not only of Tuscany but of Italy as a whole, the Leaning Tower of Pisa, or rather the bell-tower of the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta in the Piazza dei Miracoli, is famous for its. The Leaning Tower of Pisa, also known as the Tower of Pisa or ‘Torre pendente di Pisa’ in Italian, is one of the world’s most famous buildings due to its leaning stance, which leaves it forever appearing to be toppling over. Industrial and UI design are art forms too. Which I thought was a pertinent change going from mostly CRT to mostly LCD, just as I think the reverse is now, going from bezelled LCDs to more thoroughly engineered designs just compare the rounded-screen Apple Watch and iOS devices to their predecessors… expect a return to rounded Mac monitors! And with them inevitably rounded full-screen views… So I guess I just chalked it up to that particular medium (macOS windows) having that particular radius, just as the whole screen did since forever before OS X. (I enjoyed those Piranesi articles by the way)Īlso, best not to dig too far into the “real” corners of stuff, lest we find almost all analog sources are rounded (most physical canvases once you look at them close enough still and movie films are almost always cropped to hide their “real” rounded corners…) But then again I’m an architect, so maybe I’m on the “wrong” side of that design debate. I’m a stickler for all things aspect ratio myself, but for some reason I never felt that way about rounded windows, even though I noticed them immediately. Which leads to another suggestion I can’t test: Maybe you could investigate something along the lines of the workaround for that earlier issue:ĭefaults write MGCinematicWindowDebugForceNoRoundedCorners 1 I don’t mean to minimize your obviously sincere pain, but if you feel so strongly about it, you must have been pissed for years, as QuickTime Player, Movist and probably others have been rounding non-fullscreen windows for more than a decade. Not that there’s anything wrong with GraphicConverter. I get that it’s not the same, but shouldn’t that solve the issue without third-party software? And quicker too. I can’t test Big Sur myself yet, but have you tried option-space (full-screen QuickLook)? QuickLook has one job to do: to render as faithfully as possible the image for each thumbnail or preview.Īpple: please remove this rounding error which screams out the arrogance of the designer. And to pretend that any designer can render The Scream better than Munch is sheer travesty. If anyone in Apple doesn’t believe me, go and see the original. That’s how Munch’s painting really looks. To see that painting rendered faithfully as a rectangle I have to used third-party software like GraphicConverter. Opening images in Preview is no better if they’re scaled to the view. That’s not Munch’s painting, it’s something which has been redesigned. That’s the QuickLook preview, which is no better. Someone has horribly mutilated every painting that I see in Big Sur. Look at those four rounded corners: he was a prolific artist, but never once in his life painted on a support with corners like those.Ĭlose up that QuickLook thumbnail seen in Finder is just wrong. To constantly see QuickLook thumbnails and previews with rounded corners is jarring. After a few years of looking at paintings, this is expected. As anyone who has ever seen a real painting in the flesh knows, the overwhelming majority of them are rectangular with squared corners. I think I’m gradually getting used to that, but there’s one remaining problem which infuriates me every day: that’s the way that QuickLook thumbnails and previews of rectangular images have their corners rounded.Īs you can imagine, I use QuickLook to look at images of paintings pretty well daily. Some of its changes definitely make life more difficult: one which keeps tripping me up is how hard it can be to find a section of window bar which I can use for dragging that window around. Clothes. According to statistics, we wear 20% of our clothes 80% of the time. That means that many of us have closets full of clothes that we no longer like or no longer fit us correctly. 7 Ways to Sample Minimalist Living and Living With Lessġ. Conducting each experiment for 3-4 weeks will give a good feel for the practical benefits of minimalist living, but hey, it’s your experiment. They are designed to be picked one-by-one, risk-free. To that end, allow me to offer 7 areas of life where living with less can be sampled. Oh, one may not experience all the benefits that are afforded to those who jump in with both feet, but they just may taste enough to continue along the journey. maybe living as a minimalist can just be sampled for a bit. As a result, it’s too far a leap… too long a stretch… and jumping in with both feet is just not going to happen.īut maybe there’s an easier way than jumping in with both feet. The benefits of minimalist living have never been articulated. It’s an approach to life they have never been introduced to or have never been invited to explore. Unfortunately, for some, the idea of minimalism is just too counter-intuitive. In other words, minimalist living would be a life-changing and life-giving realization. And if it were true, it would free us up to pursue the things in life that we most value. It would change the very foundation of our lives. It would change where we focus our attention and our minds. It would change the way we spend our hours, our energy, and our money. That truth would change almost everything about us. We’ve just been told the lie so many times we begin to believe it.īut w hat if, in reality, there is actually more joy in pursuing minimalist living and intentionally living with less? We all know, deep-down, that happiness can not be bought at a department store-more is not necessarily better. As a result, we work hard hours so that we can spend countless dollars purchasing the biggest homes, fanciest cars, trendiest fashions, most popular toys, and coolest technologies.īut we all know it’s not true. “There are two ways to be rich: One is by acquiring much, and the other is by desiring little.” -Jackie French Kollerįrom the moment we’re born, we’re told to pursue more. Advertisements from every television, radio, newspaper, magazine, billboard, and website scream to us on a daily basis that more is better. Rachel's cousin, Violet Veitch, was mother of the playwright, composer and performer Noël Coward. His mother, Rachel (daughter of Hugh Veitch of Stewartfield), was from a gentry family fallen into straitened circumstances. His father, John Richard Haig, an alcoholic, was said to be "in trade", though as head of the family's successful Haig & Haig whisky distillery, he had an income of £10,000 per year (£1,160,000 in 2018), an enormous amount at the time. Haig was born in a house on Charlotte Square, Edinburgh (but with postal address 19 Hope Street, the side street to the south-west a plaque exists). Major-General John Davidson, one of Haig's biographers, praised Haig's leadership, and since the 1980s many historians have argued that the public hatred with which Haig's name had come to be associated failed to recognise the adoption of new tactics and technologies by forces under his command, the important role played by British forces in the allied victory of 1918, and that high casualties were a consequence of the tactical and strategic realities of the time. The Canadian War Museum comments: "His epic but costly offensives at the Somme (1916) and Passchendaele (1917) have become nearly synonymous with the carnage and futility of First World War battles." He was nicknamed "Butcher Haig" for the two million British casualties endured under his command. However he also had some prominent contemporary detractors and, beginning in the 1960s, has been widely criticised for his leadership during the First World War. He gained a favourable reputation during the immediate post-war years, with his funeral becoming a day of national mourning. It is considered by some historians to be one of the greatest victories ever achieved by a British-led army. This campaign, in combination with the Kiel mutiny, the Wilhelmshaven mutiny, the proclamation of a republic on 9 November 1918 and civil unrest across Germany, led to the armistice of 11 November 1918. In January 1917 he was promoted to the rank of Field Marshal, subsequently leading the BEF during the final Hundred Days Offensive, when it crossed the Canal du Nord and broke through the Hindenburg line, capturing 188,700 German prisoners. His military career included service in the War Office, where he was instrumental in the creation of the Territorial Force in 1908. He was commander during the Battle of the Somme, the Battle of Arras, the Third Battle of Ypres, the German Spring Offensive, and the Hundred Days Offensive. During the First World War he commanded the British Expeditionary Force (BEF) on the Western Front from late 1915 until the end of the war. We scoured board books, sensory toys, building blocks, educational toys, snuggly soft friends and STEM toys to find t he best gifts for toddlers for 2022. With all that in mind, though, there's still a world of fun options for the toddlers in your life. And, while they might be in a big I-can-do-it-myself phase, they're still working on skills like gross motor control, fine motor coordination and even emotional regulation, all of which might make certain big-kid toys and games too sophisticated for them. You can also have a 'race,' where you both stack cups at the same time. What to do: Take turns stacking the cups and knocking them down. Toddlers have extra safety requirements, since they're still not old enough to play with any toys that have small parts that can be choking hazards. Materials needed: Plastic measuring cups. Shopping for gifts for kids is a pleasure by design - toys are meant to be fun! But if you're shopping for gifts for 1-year-olds or gifts for 2-year-olds, there are special considerations in play. |
